Benefits of hiring a Doula

Clinical studies have found that a doula's presence at birth:

  • tends to result in shorter labours with fewer complications

  • reduces negative feelings about one’s childbirth experience

  • reduces the need for pitocin (a labor-inducing drug), forceps or vacuum extraction and cesareans

  • reduces the mother’s request for pain medication and/or epidurals

Research shows that families with doula support:

  • feel more secure and cared for

  • are more successful in adapting to new family      dynamics

  • have greater success with breastfeeding

  • have less postpartum depression

Your partner is an essential support person for you to have by your side. The role of a doula is in no way to take the place of your partner. A Doula has knowledge about birth, medical procedures, and natural progression of birth. Doulas and partners work together to make up your labor support team.

"The skill of being with women in pain in labour often rests in believing in women when they do not believe in themselves."
